About
A small site with one job: helping you get a console-like living room PC running official SteamOS.
Why this site exists
Valve’s Steam Machine put a console-style SteamOS box under the TV. The operating system is the interesting part, and Valve lets you install it on your own hardware.
That leaves an obvious gap: the same experience, on hardware you choose. CouchMachine exists to make that route as short as possible. No forum threads to dig through, no compatibility spreadsheets, no guessing which graphics card SteamOS actually supports.
Two routes, one outcome
Build your own from eight parts that are checked to fit, or buy a ready-made system and install SteamOS on it. Both end with the same official Valve operating system under your TV.
How we pick
Every tier starts with the resolution people actually play at, and the parts are chosen around it as a complete set rather than as individual best buys. We check socket, physical size, power draw and cooling clearance together, favour parts with a long track record over the newest release, and pick one product per slot instead of listing five and leaving the decision to you. Prebuilt systems go through the same filter: AMD graphics and sensible memory and storage.
Where we stand
- Official SteamOS only. No community spins, no patched installers.
- AMD only. That is what SteamOS supports, so that is what we recommend.
- One pick per part. A list you can order, not a catalogue to compare.
- Honest about tradeoffs. Including when the Steam Machine is the better buy.
- Indications, not promises. Prices move and frame rates depend on the game.
